Sudha Kheterpal
Faithless/Dido

For Sudha Kheterpal it all started out as a kid in Nottingham. Always drawn to the drums, Sudha started tapping out rhythms early and was soon finding her way around the drum kit, playing in bands around town. She moved on to Percussion and started playing with jazz musicians in Manchester and early dance acts like K.Klass.

Sudha’s talents have since taken her around the world and opened the door to a multitude of influences. Early on she developed a passion for Cuba; it’s rhythms and it’s people. She went there in the ‘90s to connect with the music scene and ended up playing with some of the best musicians in Havana. Her Indian roots are equally influential and she’s been a pioneering personality in the British-Asian scene. She was a founder member of the groundbreaking Sister India project and toured Brazil with internationally renowned Talvin Singh.

Known by many as he heartbeat of electronic band, Faithless, Sudha has indeed enjoyed huge global success. Part of the Cheeky Records stable – producer Rollo’s empire of beats and pizzicato strings – she’s been there since ’97 when Dido recorded her first demo that was to become the multi-million selling album, ‘No Angel’. As well as touring live with her, Sudha can be heard on both Dido albums.

Sudha is an artist who wears many hats (and not just the glittering cowboy hats for which she is widely recognised!) Alongside her underground status, performing live at legendary clubs like Cream and The Hacienda, her success has seen her featured as Percussionist on records and tours with huge mainstream artists including Kylie, Carleen Anderson and more recently, The Spice Girls.

Live band credits include: Jo Roberts, Melanie Williams, K.klass, Rae and Christian, Corduroy, Ian Brown, Slovo, PAs with Kylie + Carleen Anderson, Zoe Johnston, Mark Morrison, Talvin Singh, Sister India, Dido, Faithless, Chicane, The Spice Girls.

Sudha appears on record with: K klass, The Christians, Dusted (used in the Film 'A Life Less Ordinary), DJ Digit, DJ Disciple, Sister Bliss, Slovo, Dido and Faithless.

Ian Matthews
Kasabian

When Ian Matthews got his first drumkit at age four, he was lucky that his babysitter was also a professional drummer. “He’d teach me a few rudiments and how to read a bit,” Ian remembers. “That got me into jazz coordination and learning samba and mambo.”

By the time the drummer was seven, he could play “a pretty good waltz, quickstep, foxtrot, and tango.” Matthews played his first gig at a local pub, sitting in for the drummer in his father’s band. Four years later, a one-off performance in the orchestra pit at Bristol, England’s 2,000-seat Hippodrome theater led to steady work playing in musical comedy productions and jazz shows throughout his teens.

Today Matthews reckons his diverse background made it easy for him to step into his gig with British rockers Kasabian, whose vibrant brand of rock mixes elements of new wave, electronica, and dub beats with classic progressive song structure. “There’s a lot of flexibility to us,” says Ian, “because there’s no anchor to our music.”

Kasabian’s sophomore release, Empire, debuted at number-1 on the British charts and the band gone on to win a Brit Award, Q Music Award, NME Award and a MOJO award.

A particular recent highlight was Ian and the bands blistering headline performance at the 2010 V festival.
